We Should Have Flying Cars By Now

…and we should be at peace

Gotta love the 70’s Graphic

In 1979 ABC News had a special report that covered the last solar eclipse on this continent. Listening to Frank Reynolds made me respect journalists and news organizations that actually inform their viewers. I can’t watch this clip and not think about SNL’s Weekend Update crew. Their deadpan way of covering news events is spot on, especially the original Not Ready for Primetime Players crew. Reynolds made me pause and reflect. In 1979, he hoped the world would be at peace by 2017. This year has been anything but that. Maybe by 2024 or 2045, our next total solar eclipse, we’ll be at peace— and have flying cars.

“So that’s it, the last solar eclipse to be seen on this continent in this century. As I said, not until August 21, 2017, will another eclipse be visible from North America. That’s 38 years from now. May the shadow of the moon fall on a world at peace.

Frank Reynolds anchored from ABC News in New York, with live reports from former science correspondence Jules Bergman and reporter Bob Miller. ( Steve Newman on YouTube)
